Castelli Gabba R Long-Sleeve Jacket The sixth generation of the Gabba takes weather protection during racing to a new level. A brand new exclusive textile technology makes the Gabba R functionally waterproof and highly breathable, while the snug fit makes it the most aerodynamic jacket we've ever tested. By far. Whether your goal is to cross the finish line first or to stay warm, dry, and comfortable, the Gabba R is capable of making it effortless for you to achieve both. After years of development, Castelli has finally achieved a highly stretchy, functionally waterproof and highly breathable fabric that allows us to make the ultimate race jacket with the fit and aerodynamics of a speed bodysuit and the water protection of a rain cape. We proudly present to you the Gabba R. The "R" stands for Race. Clearly, aerodynamics are critical in creating a better racing Gabba. Wind tunnel testing has demonstrated significant aerodynamic improvements. Through two separate wind tunnel tests, supplemented by road tests, we saw that in certain positions and speeds the Gabba R will actually be faster than the Sanremo BTW Speed Suit used by the Soudal Quick-Step team. In a ""normal"" road position, the Gabba R allows you to go about 1 percent faster at speeds from 37 to 50 km/h, while in a very aggressive, low position, it is only about 1 percent slower than the Sanremo BTW bodysuit. Since the creation of the original Gabba, the main focus has been to keep cyclists comfortable, warm and fast during training and racing, even in adverse weather conditions. However, the new Gabba R takes this concept to the next level by being "functionally waterproof," which means it effectively keeps you dry from the outside. Let's delve deeper into this concept. The fabric has a hydrostatic resistance rating of over 5,000 mm. While this may seem low compared to some outdoor brands that try to prevent any moisture ingress even under the pressure of a backpack or sitting on a wet surface, it is more than enough to repel even torrential rains. Increasing waterproofness often results in decreased breathability, but in our testing we found that a 5,000 mm rating strikes the right balance. Designed for WorldTour racing, the Gabba R offers 100% stretch in every direction. Its snug fit optimizes aerodynamics while maintaining comfort. In our testing, we found that the close fit has the advantage that whatever moisture forms inside the jacket during intense efforts, the jacket tends to stay warmer since it is kept close to the body, generating less cold from moisture than we experience with other jackets. If a cyclist prefers a more relaxed fit, especially for use in very cold temperatures over thermal layers, we recommend choosing a larger size, as Kasper Asgreen does for winter training in Denmark.
- Castelli-exclusive fabric with electrospun microporous hydrophilic polyurethane membrane.
- The outer membrane keeps the jacket light and breathable while avoiding an additional outer layer that would retain moisture.
- The fabric weighs only 125 g/m2 and stretches at least twice its original size in every direction.
- The fabric's inner lining is 78% polyester / 22% elastane to maintain extreme stretch while enhancing breathability.
- The polyurethane membrane is formulated to be more hydrophobic than standard polyurethane.
- Elastic closure at the wrist to keep water out.
- YKK® Vislon® waterproof zipper.
- 3 back pockets.
- Elongated back panel with reflective stripe.
- The membrane and the entire fabric are PFAS-free.
- Temperature: 4°C - 18°C / 39°F - 64°F.
- Fit: Race.
